Rexam to build first beverage can plant in Switzerland
British multinational consumer packaging company Rexam is set to establish its first beverage can manufacturing facility in Switzerland at Widnau with an investment of £115m over the next three years.
The move is part of the company's current capital investment plans to meet global growth in energy drinks.
The new wall-to-wall facility is being configured as a four line operation to manufacture various sizes of both slim and sleek cans.
Rexam will initially operate two lines and the first line is slated to commence operations by the start of 2015.
The beverage can plant in Widnau is expected to create around 120 jobs.
Rexam Beverage Can Europe sector director Iain Percival said that with energy drinks emerging as a fast growing category in soft drinks market, the company wants to invest in this area.
"The new plant will free up capacity at other Rexam plants in the region which will enable us to grow specialty can volumes or release production capacity for other sizes," Percival added.
"Overall, this is another step to strengthen relationships with our customers by offering them the best cans and the best service possible."
