Ganeden Biotech, CapAble partner to launch new straw for shelf stable beverage containers

DBR Staff Writer Published 27 February 2015

American probiotic ingredient manufacturer Ganeden Biotech has partnered with probiotic packaging maker CapAble to launch a new straw for refrigerated and shelf stable packaging.

Manufactured by CapAble, the new telescoping GanedenBC30 LifeTop Probiotic Straw will have 1 billion CFU of GanedenBC30 probiotic and can be applied to Tetra Pak and other shelf stable beverage containers.

Each straw delivers a full day's supply of GanedenBC30 probiotics and allows the beverages to retain healthy bacteria, throughout the store.

Commenting on the development, Ganeden Biotech senior vice president Michael Bush said: "We are thrilled to be working with the team at CapAble and to have entered into this exclusive agreement.

"Beverage manufacturers around the globe are asking for solutions to incorporate our patented probiotic into shelf stable beverages and the use of the GanedenBC30 LifeTop Straw enables integration into shelf stable beverages of all types."

Ganeden Biotech claims that its patented probiotic ingredient GanedenBC30 is a spore-forming organism that makes it highly stable and allows it to remain viable through most manufacturing processes.

Sales in the global probiotic market is expected to touch around $36.7bn by 2018, with over $30bn coming from functional foods and beverages.
