Diageo to expand canning facility in Canada
British alcoholic beverages company Diageo has invested $5.33m for a new canning line in Canada, which distills and bottles a variety of Diageo brands.
Diageo is expanding its canning facility in Valleyfield, Quebec, with the addition of a new line to service its existing and new brands.
The expansion would the production capacity at the site by 500,000 cases annually.
The British company will utilize the new line to can ready-to-drink products, such as Smirnoff Ice Slim Cans, Bevé, and Jeremiah Weed flavors for the Canadian market.
Diageo Valleyfield director of operations Michel Charpentier said: "The popularity of the ready-to-drink segment is driving growth, particularly in Canada.
"Having the ability to produce cans in our own facility will enable us to meet the demand for ready-to-drink products more efficiently, and make it possible for innovations to go to market faster and more cost-effectively."
Currently under construction, the facility is expected to open later this year. The company is investing $5.33m in the facility.
Diageo Canada president Jakob Ripshtein said: "Our ready-to-drink business continues to grow across all provinces, particularly with our Bevé and Smirnoff Ice brands. This new line demonstrates our commitment to the long-term success of these brands and this format."
Acquired in 2008, Valleyfield site is one of several production facilities owned by the company.
